WE DID GET CARRIED AWAY A BIT
We spent a rather unreasonable amount of time thinking about what should go into AWKN.
Which ingredients.
Which forms.
How much.
How they work together.
And, importantly, what actually makes sense when your body is dealing with alcohol. Because there is no single ingredient that can do the whole job. Your body has rather a lot going on after a night out.
LET'S START WITH THE BASICS
ALCOHOL METABOLISM
When we drink, our liver breaks down alcohol into acetaldehyde, an unwanted toxic byproduct. Acetaldehyde is what causes much of the damage to cells and that all so familiar feeling the day after.
OUR BODY GOES TO WORK
We have to look at our bodies as a chemical factory trying to neutralise a threat. This is why our bodies then starts working overtime to turn that into acetate. Acetate is relatively harmless and is eventually broken down into carbon dioxide and water to be flushed out of our bodies.
THE BOTTLENECK
Our liver can only metabolise about one standard drink per hour. If we drink faster than this, acetaldehyde builds up in our system, causing the "flushing" or "sick" feeling associated with overconsumption. A "hangover" isn't just dehydration; it is a complex state of multi system challenge.
Work with the body. Not against it.
FIRST, A LITTLE KOREAN THINKING
Korean apothecary has always had a fairly sensible idea at its heart: support the body proactively rather than simply reacting to the symptom.
Ingredients are traditionally chosen with the bigger picture in mind. That's the thinking that inspired AWKN.
We took ingredients with a history in Korean wellness, combined them with nutrients and compounds backed by modern nutritional research, and worked with our formulation team in Korea to create something designed for modern life.

Which is inconvenient, because it would have made our job much easier.
When you drink, your body has to process alcohol, manage its by-products, deal with changes in hydration and nutrient metabolism, and generally clean up after the evening's activities.
So why would we expect one ingredient to handle all of that?

You can buy 15 interesting ingredients. That doesn't make a formula. We work with our formulation team in Korea to consider:
What does each ingredient do?
How much of it makes sense?
In what form?
How does it behave in a liquid?
How does it sit alongside the other ingredients?
And does the finished formula actually make sense as a whole?
That's the difference between an ingredient list and a formulation.
Why liquid?
BECAUSE WE CAN DO BETTER
Liquid formulations can reduce the need for tablets or powders to first disintegrate and dissolve before their ingredients can become available for absorption.
But we didn't choose liquid simply because it looks good in a little sachet. We chose it because delivery matters.
The form an ingredient takes, how it dissolves, how it behaves in the finished product and how your body processes it all matter when you're trying to formulate something properly.
It also makes manufacturing more complicated. And more expensive.
We thought it was worth it.

ONE FINAL NOTE
AWKN doesn't make alcohol harmless.
We wish this is the case, but biology remains annoyingly resistant to marketing.
Your body still has to process alcohol. The most effective way to reduce alcohol-related harm is still to drink less.
AWKN isn't here to give you permission to drink more. It's here for people who choose to drink, but also care about what they're putting into their bodies, how they feel the next day, and getting on with their lives.
